Job search engine

Job search engine

Now I am not one to endorse products and brands generally, but Google is usually pretty incredible. Forget Google Earth and all the other services they run. I am talking solely about the search engine. As you no doubt already know, you can look for practically any subject, and you will find it almost immediately. Unfortunately, this sometimes leads to the impression that Google is infallible. I don't know about you, but when I look for something on Google and can't find it, I usually assume that it doesn't exist on the World Wide Web. It took me a long time to realize that Google doesn't own the web. Like it or not, the Google search engine doesn't get everything.

A case in point was when I was looking for a job search engine. Basically everything I came up with was a scam. I couldn't find a single job website that did what I wanted to do. Most of the job websites were more interested in trying to sell me something that in getting me a job. Of course there are the mainstream ones like Monster, but I have never really liked them that much. There are so many people looking for jobs that it is almost impossible to get a callback. It makes sense to put your portfolio up on the site, but I have always craved a smaller job website – one targeted towards a particular specializations or community.

I had always assumed that such job websites did not exist until one of my friends told me about it. It was for people in the IT field – people like me. It was essentially an online social networking site with the end goal of matching contractors with employers. In the IT world, the distinction between employer and employee is vaguer than in the normal world. This allows people to really get to know each other, not just as potential boss and worker, but also as friends. If you can find a job website in your chosen field, I highly recommend it. It is much better than going to one of those vast, impersonal search engines.

Of course, many of the job websites are scams. Fortunately, the scams are pretty easy to spot. They promise you unrealistic earnings overnight, vowing to make you a millionaire before you can blink your eyes. You have to dig for them, but the real job website forums are out there. Once you find one, it is a goldmine for contacts!
